Arsenal knocked out by fourth-tier Fleetwood Town on League Cup penalties
Fleetwood Town beat Arsenal 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw to reach the League Cup quarter-finals.
Arsenal were eliminated from the League Cup by Fleetwood Town in the fourth round. After a 1-1 draw at Highbury Stadium, the League Two side won the penalty shootout 5-3 to reach the quarter-finals.

The Premier League favourites could not overcome opponents from England’s fourth tier. Fleetwood had already beaten Sheffield United in the previous round.
Penalties settled the tie
Arsenal’s cup campaign ended in the last 16, while the hosts secured a place in the final eight. The result underlined the uncertainty of a single-match knockout tie, despite the gap between the clubs’ league levels.
