Alcaraz returns to Vienna with opening match planned for 27 October
Carlos Alcaraz is joining the Erste Bank Open as a wildcard. The Spaniard’s first match at Vienna’s Stadthalle is scheduled for 27 October.
A prominent name has been added to the entry list ahead of Vienna’s Erste Bank Open. Carlos Alcaraz will compete in the ATP 500 tournament as a wildcard, returning to the event after five years.

The planned Vienna schedule
The organisers’ announcement said Alcaraz was expected to arrive in Vienna on 24 October and play his opening match on Tuesday 27 October on the centre court at Wiener Stadthalle. The official order of play should be used to confirm the opponent and start time.
What it means for local spectators
For tennis followers living in Austria, this development offers an opportunity to watch one of the sport’s leading players at close quarters. For me, the strongest part of the story is that local connection: a tournament in Vienna can have a larger place in Turkish-language sports coverage.

Alcaraz’s involvement adds sporting appeal, while the planned opening date gives those hoping to attend a practical starting point. Participation and scheduling can still change during tournament week.
