Arda’s message before the game
Speaking to club television after the Leipzig match, Arda said the team were ready for Barcelona and would give everything to win. Barcelona held their final training session on Saturday. Both starting lineups will be announced before the game.
What I will be watching
I find a comparison based only on goals incomplete. If Arda plays, his passing connections centrally and between the lines will interest me; if Lamine Yamal plays, his capacity to push defenders back through one-on-one situations out wide will be worth watching. These are my analytical themes, not disclosed coaching instructions.
Where Arda receives the ball and how many defenders provide cover against Yamal could help explain how attacks develop. Rather than treating them as rivals in the same position, I will assess what their different roles give their teams.
